RideAlike is a Canadian company that offers a better rental experience through our marketplace for both vehicle owners and renters. Owners can enjoy extra income to offset their operating expenses, while anyone can have access to a car, SUV, truck or van for a few hours or several days. Our innovative platform is committed to converting consumers’ biggest depreciating asset into a value generating revenue driver.
The sharing economy is an economic model defined as a peer-to-peer (P2P) based activity of sharing access to goods and services that is often facilitated by a community-based on-line platform. And that's where RideAlike comes in, helping vehicle owners and vehicle renters find each other and contract together, to provide benefits to both parties.
RideAlike allows you to easily share, rent and swap vehicles in a trusted community. RideAlike’s P2P sharing marketplace brings together Hosts (vehicle owners) and Guests (vehicle renters) to safely transact with each other.
RideAlike facilitates renting and swapping vehicles with others in our community. In a rental transaction, a user contracts to borrow a vehicle from an owner for a period of time and adhere to our Code of Conduct. Typically the renter will meet the owner at the owner's location to pick up and return the vehicle, although some owners offer a delivery and pick up service. In a swap transaction, a vehicle owner contracts with another vehicle owner to borrow each other's vehicle for the same period of time while adhering to our Code of Conduct. The swap capability is a unique feature of RideAlike that allows vehicle owners to swap their vehicle for someone else's vehicle, at a low cost. Unlike a rental where you borrow or lend out your vehicle, with a swap you always have access to a vehicle. Typically our users will use the swap capability when they have a functional need (such as needing a larger vehicle to run errands, so they swap their car for a truck or van) or an emotional need (such as swapping their sports car for someone else's sports car, allowing them to enjoy a fun, different driving experience).
On RideAlike, you can find a variety of gas, diesel, hybrid, and electric vehicles that seat eight or fewer people, including cars, light trucks and cargo vans. We don’t accept motorcycles, three wheeled vehicles or RVs.
Guests and Hosts have the freedom of choosing either the Android app or the iOS app which can be downloaded from Google's Play app store or Apple's app store respectively. If you do not have a mobile device, you can also access RideAlike via our website at www.ridealike.com.
As a Host (vehicle owner), you can register yourself, list your vehicle and its features, choose to make it available for renting and/or swapping, set your pricing and discounts, set your rules for smoking and pets, set your vehicle's availability calendar and communicate with Guests renting your vehicle. As a Guest (vehicle renter), you can register yourself, search for nearby or specific vehicles to rent or swap, contract online with a Host for your desired pickup and return dates and times, and communicate with Hosts that you have contracted with. All Hosts and Guests can access their personalized dashboard to see past, current and future bookings and related detailed financial records, and access a variety of support services to help ensure a great rental experience.
RideAlike is currently available in Ontario, largely within the Greater Toronto Area, and is rapidly growing. We have announcements planned for more cities and will release them on our various social media properties in the future, and via email to our members.
The RideAlike community is a group of individuals that share, rent and swap vehicles via RideAlike's innovative P2P marketplace app and website. All members and vehicles are carefully reviewed by RideAlike to ensure they meet our eligibility and insurance requirements, before they can be active within our community. Vehicle owners (which we call "Hosts") enjoy the benefits of extra income by letting others in our community rent their vehicle from them, and renters (which we call "Guests") enjoy the convenience of easy access to a variety of local vehicles. Vehicles are shared to meet day to day needs like running errands or moving items, to visit friends or relatives, to enjoy a vacation or the pure pleasure of driving a different vehicle. RideAlike members also benefit from our full-service support, commercial insurance and roadside assistance benefits.
All RideAlike community members, including Hosts, Guests and our employees, are required to adhere to our Code of Conduct which helps ensure our members enjoy a safe, trustworthy and great rental experience. Our Code of Conduct can be found here.
The benefit of all members adhering to the Code of Conduct is the assurance of a safe, trusted and respectful network of people enjoying and sharing vehicles. Non-adherence can result in suspension or removal from the community, and/or fees for undesirable behaviour such as not providing or returning vehicles in clean condition, misrepresenting vehicles or identities, or fraudulent claims. RideAlike reserves the right, in our sole discretion, to impose such fees and deny claims, so please adhere to our simple but purposeful Code of Conduct.
RideAlike is governed by several policies to ensure that we treat all Guests and Hosts fairly, provide a great, trustworthy client experience and maintain compliance with local laws and regulations. To join the RideAlike community, first you have to create your profile: On your mobile device, simply select Sign In icon, then Create a profile, then enter your First name, Last name, Email, Password, and optionally select the last checkbox to receive our promotional materials and product updates (recommended), followed by selecting the Next button. On the Verify your mobile number screen, enter your Mobile number and select the Next button, then enter the SMS code received. On the Verify your identity screen, click on Add a photo of your face to take a photo (or upload an existing photo), ensuring that your full face is clearly captured, without hats or sunglasses. Do the same to scan the front and back of your drivers license, ensuring that the entire drivers license is captured clearly, then select the Verify profile now button. RideAlike will quickly review your submitted information, and upon approval, you will receive your Welcome Email confirming that you are now eligible to rent or swap vehicles.
RideAlike is committed to building a safe community of members sharing and renting vehicles with confidence. All Guests are required to register within the app, and once the required information has been submitted, RideAlike will review your information and conduct multiple checks to ensure you meet our minimum qualifications which include:
1. At least 21 years of age
2. Valid G class license
3. No more than 3 minor convictions within the last three years
4. no serious, major or alcohol convictions within the last three years
A Drivers License is provided as part of the registration process so that RideAlike can use it to confirm it is valid and that the associated driving record meets our eligibility requirements.
As a Host, you must be between 18 to 65 years of age to list your vehicle, but note that you must be 21 to 65 years of age to rent or swap a vehicle. Your vehicle must also meet our vehicle eligibility requirements (See Eligibility Requirements for vehicles)
Once you submit the information we ask for, we usually complete the review within 2 business days. As part of your application you provide us with permission to check various data sources to confirm your identity such as your driving history.
Once our review is complete and we have confirmed you meet our eligibility requirements, an email will then be sent to your registered email, welcoming you to the RideAlike community which will include our Code of Conduct for your review and adherence. As a Host, you can then list your vehicle and enjoy the extra income. As a Guest, you can then select vehicles to rent.
RideAlike takes the process of verification seriously to ensure we know the identity of our members, by conducting both automated and manual checks on each applicant. This helps reduce the risk of fraudulent identities or payment cards. RideAlike also verifies that all Guests meet the eligibility requirements (See Eligibility Requirements) and that all vehicles meet the eligibility requirements (See Eligibility Requirements for vehicles) Should any member have a concern with the trustworthiness or lack of adherence to our Code of Conduct, they can contact us at hello@ridealike.com and we will work with you to resolve your concerns.
No, not at this time as we cannot verify the validity of these licenses, so to protect the RideAlike community, Guests must have a Canadian drivers license that meets our eligibility requirements.
Once you have established your profile, you cannot change your name. You can either create a new profile with your new name, or contact RideAlike at
Sign on to the app or website, select Profile, select your name, and on the Edit profile screen, select Email, then enter your new email and select Change email. An email will be sent to your new address, that you must click on to verify your new email address.
If you’re having difficulty changing your account email address, please contact our Support Center at hello@ridealike.com. Do not create a new account with a different email.
Sign on to the app or website, select Profile, select your name, and on the Edit profile screen, select Mobile number, then enter your phone number and select Change phone. A verification code will be sent to your new phone number, which needs to be entered into the Secure code box on the Change your mobile number screen.
If you did not receive the code, select Resend code to have a new one sent. If you’re having difficulty changing your phone number, please contact our Support Center at hello@ridealike.com. Do not create a new account with a different phone number.
Sign on to the app or website, select Profile, select your name, and on the Edit profile screen select Password. Enter your Current password, enter your New password and then select Change password.
You may be unable to access your account due to forgetting your username or password, or too many incorrect login attempts or suspension of your account. If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it by Forgot Password in Sign In page if your account is not locked or suspended. If your account is locked or suspended, please contact our Support Centre at hello@ridealike.com and we will investigate quickly and help you resolve the issue.
Sign on to the app or website, select Profile, select Payment method, and enter your new data, then select Save.
If you wish to close your account with RideAlike, you can send an email to hello@ridealike.com. We will remove your public information on RideAlike, including any vehicle listings, and in accordance with our Privacy Policy, we may retain some or all of your data for audit or other purposes.
Prior to listing your vehicle, ensure it meets our eligibility requirements (See Eligibility Requirements for vehicles) To list your vehicle select the Dashboard icon, and then in the Dashboard screen, select List your Vehicle in the top right. On the It's easy to list your vehicle screen, simply follow the 6 steps listed:
Step 1 Tell us about your vehicle: Select Next, and on the Tell us about your vehicle screen, enter the required information in the Vehicle information section, then add the optional but recommended Vehicle description, edit your address if not correct, and then select Myself (if you own the vehicle) or A Business (if commercially owned). Hosts must also click the tick box to certify that their vehicle has not had a salvage title, in order for our insurance to apply, then select Next
Step 2 Upload photos and documents: Select the Province, enter your License plate number, and move the slider to select the range for your Current kilometers. Upload your vehicle ownership by clicking on the camera symbol, followed by Take photo (to use the camera and take a picture) or Attach photo (if you already have a photo of your ownership). Ensure your photo is captures both the Vehicle and Plate portion, and is clear and readable to avoid delaying the verification process. Similarly, Upload your insurance certificate and then enter your vehicle VIN. Add additional photos of your vehicle, followed by selecting Next.
Step 3 Select your vehicle's features: Select your Fuel type, Transmission, Number of doors and Number of Seats. If you are listing a Pick Up, you can also select the Truck box size. Then select all applicable Interior features, Exterior features, Comfort feature and Safety and privacy features. You can also add up to 5 Custom features by selecting Add a feature, followed by the Name, Description and Add photos, then select Next.
Step 4 Set preferences for your vehicle: Select Yes or No if Smoking allowed and if Suitable for pets? Then choose Unlimited or Set a Limit for the Daily mileage allowance? The minimum daily allowance for all vehicles on RideAlike is 200KM and you can set a maximum limit up to 1000KM. Then choose if you want your vehicle to be available for Rental only, Swap only or Both rental and swap (recommended), followed by Next.
Step 5 Set vehicle's availability: Select the amount of Advance notice that you want when Guests book your vehicle. You can choose Same Day if Guests can book your car for use on the next hour, or select from 1 to 7 days notice. For example, At Least 1 Day's Notice will not allow Guests to book your vehicle for the next 24 hours. If you select Same Day, you can also move the slider to set the time by which the booking must be made that same day. For example, if you set it for 7PM, Guests will only be able to book your vehicle same day before 7PM that day. Then set your Booking window which defaults to All Future Dates Are Available, meaning Guests can book any available date in the future. Alternatively, you can limit the availability of your vehicle by selecting the number of future months that your vehicle can be booked for. For example, if you choose 6 Months Into The Future, your vehicle cannot be booked seven months or more past the current date. You can then move the sliders to set the Shortest Trip and Longest Trip durations and then select any dates on the calendar that you wish to block so that Guests cannot book those days. If you have chosen to make your vehicle available for swap in Step 4, then you can set the slider for the Swap area distance which controls how far away your vehicle is visible to by Guests, and limit the types of vehicles you would swap your vehicle for. Lastly, select Next.
Step 6 Set your pricing: In the last step, Hosts can set their pricing. To help Hosts select a fair price, RideAlike employs a proprietary algorithm that will show Hosts a suggested Per hour and Per day price. Hosts can increase or decrease the price based on their own preference, as well as set optional excess mileage and custom delivery fees, and offer a Weekly discount or Monthly discount to incent selection by Guests. RideAlike also allows Hosts to optionally offer onetime discounts to the first 3 Guests that book your vehicle. Make sure you select Submit your vehicle for review button, which will notify RideAlike to review your listing for compliance to our standards, and then we will make it available to the RideAlike community. Hosts will receive an email from RideAlike confirming the successful vehicle listing.
To help Hosts select a fair price, RideAlike employs a proprietary algorithm that will show Hosts a suggested Per hour and Per day price when listing your vehicle. Hosts can increase or decrease the price based on their own preference. To help determine your daily rental price you can also search on RideAlike or local, traditional rental car companies to see what they are charging, to ensure your price is competitive. Once your vehicle is listed, if you are not getting a sufficient number of bookings, you can edit your vehicle listing and reduce your price.
Yes, in order to cover costs of insurance, roadside assistance and other services, there is a minimum hourly and daily rate that can be set for any vehicle, to ensure that these costs are covered.
To share your vehicle on RideAlike, it must meet the following requirements:
1. Current Ontario plate
2. Not older than 15 years
3. Mileage under 200,000 KM
4. Market value under $100,000 (Vehicles valued over $100,000 may be accepted but will require specific approval from our insurance company).
5. Vehicle weight under 4500 KG
6. Must have valid title (not salvage, irreparable, rebuilt or similar)
7. If vehicle is personally owned, a valid personal insurance policy must be in effect
8. If vehicle is commercially owned, a valid OAP#1 policy must be in effect and vehicle cannot be insured under OAP#4 Garage policy
9. All owners of vehicles, whether personally or commercially owned, must be aware of, and allow, listing the vehicle on RideAlike
RideAike does not accept three wheeled vehicles, motorcycles or RVs.
We recommend you review your leasing contract to see if car sharing is explicitly not permitted and if there are any caps on your mileage before listing on RideAlike.
Select Dashboard, then select your vehicle in the My Vehicles section, followed by Edit vehicle listing at the bottom of the screen. On the Edit your listing screen, select Upload photos and documents, and then select any photo to update it, or select any "+" symbol to add additional photos. Ensure you select Next, followed by Submit your vehicle for review to save your changes.
Select Dashboard, then select your vehicle in the My Vehicles section, followed by Edit vehicle listing at the bottom of the screen. On the Edit your listing screen, select Set Your Pricing to change your vehicle's pricing. Ensure you select Next, followed by Submit your vehicle for review to save your changes.
Select Dashboard, then select your vehicle in the My Vehicles section, followed by Edit vehicle listing at the bottom of the screen. On the Edit your listing screen, select Set your vehicle's availability, then Manage your calendar. Select any dates you wish to be blocked, which will prevent Guests from booking your vehicle on those days. Ensure you select Next, followed by Save to save your changes.
If you need to temporarily disable your listing, you cannot do this in the app/website. Email us at hello@ridealike.com and provide the details of the vehicle you want deactivated (eg Year, Make and Model) and we can do this for you.
Ensure you have enabled location based services in order to use RideAlike's powerful search capabilities. When you start the app or access the website, users will be prompted to turn this on if it is not active. Users can find vehicles by and of the following three methods:
1. Browsing the vehicles on the Discover page - users can select any of the 4 pre-defined categories of vehicles - New vehicles closest to your city, Popular this month, Recently viewed, and Previously booked. Users can easily browse vehicles in any of these four categories by sliding the pictures to the left, and clicking on a vehicle picture will display more detailed information and allow you to begin the rental process.
2. Clicking on the Map icon at the bottom of the Discover page - move the map and/or use two fingers to expand/shrink the map, then select Search here at the top of the screen and you will see prices displayed on the map. Click on a price which will display summary information about the selected vehicle at the bottom of the page. Click on the summary information to display more detailed information and allow you to begin the rental process.
3. Clicking on the Search icon on the top right of the Discover page to specify search criteria - users can search and filter by Location, Trip Duration, Vehicle Preferences and Daily Trip Cost, then select Search vehicles. This will display vehicles meeting your search criteria, which you can further refine by clicking on Sort by, to reorder the list. Click on a vehicle to display more detailed information and allow you to begin the rental process.
Users can determine the specific availability of a vehicle by selecting Discover, select a vehicle, click on Continue booking, click on Trip Duration and then scroll through the calendar. Any dates that are circled in grey are unavailable.
In order to book a vehicle, Guests must have registered on the RideAlike app and received their registration confirmation email. Unregistered users can browse vehicle listings but do not have access to book vehicles
.To book a vehicle simply click on the vehicle you want to rent, which will display the detailed information about that vehicle. Guests can then review the Vehicle rules, Booking rules, and Location, and then select Continue booking. On the Book trip page, Guests can then change the Trip Duration select their desired Insurance coverage, apply a Coupon code, review the fees and then select Confirm trip. Guests will also receive an email confirmation of their booking.
Once a user selects Confirm Trip, they have completed the process to make a booking. The Guest and Host will then receive an email of the confirmed booking. The confirmed booking will also be displayed in Upcoming Trips in the Dashboard of both the Host and Guest.
Vehicles are displayed with a daily rate. Check the Booking rules displayed in a vehicle listing to see if it is available for hourly and long term rentals. After your have selected a vehicle RideAlike also charges a trip fee to Guests, calculated as % of the rental price. Trip pricing is calculated based on the duration (rental period) selected. Guests can view the pricing before booking by selecting the start and end date/time which will then show the number of hours (or days) selected multiplied by the hourly/daily rental price, along with RideAlike's service fee and optional Premium insurance fee. The amount of free KM are also displayed, and coupons can be optionally applied to reduce the price. Note that Guests may incur additional fees as noted in our Fee Schedule. (link to website TBD)

No, once a rental is booked it cannot be changed, only cancelled. If you need to cancel a booked rental, you should proceed as follows:

In rare cases, RideAlike may need to cancel a booked trip. If a booked trip was not started by the Guest Pick Up process, RideAlike may subsequently cancel the trip which can result in late and/or cancellation fees being charged. RideAlike may also cancel a trip if needed to protect of our members, or if a future booked vehicle is removed from RideAlike, in which case Guests will get a full refund and Hosts will not be eligible for earnings. RideAlike will inform both Hosts and Guests if RideAlike cancels a trip.
Only registered and verified Guests can drive a rental vehicle. Other drivers are prohibited and insurance is not in effect if others drive the vehicle.
All RideAlike vehicles are insured for $2MM coverage in Canada. Vehicles can be driven into the United States, but not Mexico, and coverage may be reduced depending on state laws.
One of the unique features in the RideAlike app is the swap capability, which allows 2 users to swap their vehicles, such as a pickup truck for a car, or one sports car for another.
When Hosts list their vehicles, they select whether or not their vehicle is available for swapping, and the types of vehicles they would accept in a swap during step 5 of 6 Vehicle Availability. Hosts can review and update their swap settings by selecting Dashboard, click on the vehicle they wish to update, then Edit vehicle listing at the bottom of the screen. On the Edit your listing screen, select Set your vehicle's availability and then update the Swap within distance or Swap vehicle types, followed by Next.
The first step in swapping is to browse swappable vehicles by selecting Discover and then Swap at the top of the screen. To book a swap, select the vehicle you want to swap with your vehicle by XXXXX
Swap trips are confirmed once both Hosts have agreed to the swap, which occurs when you select Confirm Trip.
Swap pricing is actually quite simple. Each vehicle that a Host has list as eligible for swaps has a daily Swap Value, which is determined by RideAlike using a proprietary algorithm using market value, age and several other factors. When a Host is selecting another Host's vehicle to swap with, they can see their swap value (A), and the swap value of the other vehicle (B). The Host with the larger swap value will receive a payment (net of any selected insurance premiums and RideAlike fees), as they have provided a vehicle with greater value than the one they received, and the Host with lower swap value will be charged as they enjoyed a vehicle with a larger swap value (charges will include any selected insurance premiums and the RideAlike fee). RideAlike charges a % of the swap value, charged to both Hosts, as noted in the detailed trip receipts.
For example, if A's daily swap value is $120, and B's daily swap value is $80, and they agreed to swap vehicles for 7 days, A would receive $280 ($120-$80x7) less the RideAlike trip fee, and B would pay $280 ($80-$120x7) plus the RideAlike trip fee, and any optionally selected additional insurance coverage.

Yes. In a swap, you are both a Host and a Guest, but either party can cancel their booked swap through the app or our website, subject to the following conditions:

2. Cancellation fees will apply for cancelling trips within 24 hours of the trip start date and time: the party cancelling will be charged one day's trip cost.
To cancel a booked swap, you should proceed as follows:
1. Advise the other party as soon as possible per our Code of Conduct, by selecting Trips, Upcoming, click on the picture of the rental you wish to cancel, then click on the Message guest button, and write your message to the the other party of your need to cancel, and click on the send symbol on the right, AND
2. Initiate the cancellation, by selecting Trips, Upcoming, click on the picture of the swap you wish to cancel, then click on the Cancel trip button, write your reason for the cancellation and click on the Proceed with cancellation button.
Once a booked swap has been cancelled, your trip will be displayed under Trips, Cancelled. We will process the fees and notify the other party of your cancellation.
Parties who repeatedly cancel trips may be subject to additional penalties, including removal from RideAlike.

RideAlike will inform both Hosts and Guests if RideAlike cancels a trip,
Only registered and verified users can drive a rental vehicle. Other drivers are prohibited and insurance is not in effect if others drive the vehicle.
All RideAlike vehicles are insured for $2MM coverage in Canada. Vehicles can be driven into the United States, but not Mexico, and coverage may be reduced depending on state laws.
We recommend Guests show up about 15 minutes before the booked rental time in order to meet the Host and complete the Pick Up process. Up to one hour before the Pick Up time, the Inspect the vehicle button will be enabled in the app/website. Select Trips, Upcoming, click on the vehicle you are to pick up, then select Inspect the vehicle and Start the trip button at the bottom of the screen, to display the Start trip screen and follow the 4 steps below:
1. Conduct a thorough review of the inside and outside of the vehicle and determine if there is any damage to any part of the vehicle. If there is none, select No. If there is some damage, select Yes, and add up to 12 photos of all of the the damage. It is important to capture all of the damage at the beginning of the trip to avoid disputes upon return. If necessary, you can take additional photos and email them to us at hello@ridealike.com at the start of your trip.
2. Add photos of both the odometer and fuel gauge. Its important to ensure these photos are clear, to capture the readings at the start of the trip and avoid disputes upon return.
3. Select Poor, Good or Excellent to rate the overall cleanliness level of the vehicle. If the level is Poor, you may wish to take your own additional photos and you should point out anything that is unsatisfactory to your Host before starting the trip.
4. Click on Start trip.
Prior to the scheduled arrival of your Guest, Hosts should:
1. Have their vehicle ready for Pick Up. This includes ensuring the vehicle:
a. Is clean inside and outside
b. Has a full tank of fuel or full charge
c. Has been sanitized according to our Covid guidelines which can be found here.
2. Note the value or take your own pictures of the fuel and odometer gauges.
Upon arrival of your Guest, they will conduct the Guest Pick Up process and take pictures of your vehicle and complete their inspection process. Once they have completed it, the Host's Upcoming rental will move to Current rental. Verify that your rental has moved to Current, and then:
1. Verify that the Guest's Drivers License matches the Guest name, and that their face matches the picture in the booking.
2. Provide your Guest with your vehicle keys, and remind them of your vehicle rules.
The location of the Host is shown in the vehicle listing on the app/website. Unless Host Delivery has been selected, you should meet your Host at the location in the vehicle listing just before the scheduled Pick Up and Return times.
Hosts have the option when they list their vehicles, to offer a delivery service for a fee and for a specified distance. If the Host offers this feature, it will be visible in the vehicle listing below the map. To use this feature, on the Book trip screen Guests can click on the Pickup & Return Location, and then on the Location screen, click on the Delivery location box, and then enter the new address (or click on Use current location). Once the full address is entered, click on it, followed by Save.
The app/website will calculate the distance to the new location, and as long as it is within the limit set by the Host, the Book trip screen will be displayed with the calculated Delivery fee. If the distance from the Host's location to the newly entered location exceeds the limit set by the Host, an error message will display and you will need to enter a location within the limit to continue. If a Guest has booked a vehicle and selected this feature, then the Host will deliver their vehicle to the address you provided, by the start time in the booked trip. Similarly, the Host will pick up the vehicle at this location at the scheduled end of the trip. The Delivery Fee (for Pick Up and Return) will be included in the trip billing, which includes the cost of both drop off and pickup.
If you expect to be late, message the Host in the RideAlike app per our Code of Conduct and advise them of your expected time of arrival. Note that you will be charged a late fee if you are more than 30 minutes late, and the Host can cancel the entire trip if you are more than 60 minutes late.

If a Guest is late, per our Code of Conduct message them in the RideAlike app and attempt to get their estimated time of arrival. If the Guest is late 30-119 minutes, as a Host, you are entitled to 70% of the Guest late fee (1/2 of the daily rate) once RideAlike collects it from the Guest. If the Guest is late 120 minutes or more, you are entitled to 70% of the Guest late fee (one day's rental rate) once RideAlike collects it. Once the Guest is late more than 60 minutes, you have the option to cancel the trip booking at no cost to you, or continue to wait for the Guest.
If a Host is late meeting you, per our Code of Conduct message them in the RideAlike app and attempt to get their estimated time of arrival.
